This story is so breathtaking, I can hardly stand it! What a stunning illustration of Jesus turning scars into beauty marks. In a few short hours, the Samaritan woman became an evangelist and took the whole town to meet Jesus. Not only did Jesus heal her spiritually with the living water, but He also had a plan and a purpose to use her for His glory. This was full redemption! She was transformed from an outcast to a daughter of the King! God used her because of her scars, not in spite of them.

In the first century, a woman’s testimony wasn’t typically valued. However, because of this woman’s past and her confession that Jesus had revealed everything she had ever done, the whole town of Sychar was curious enough to walk half a mile out of town to meet Jesus. And many of them believed. In fact, when they urged Jesus to stay with them, He stayed two more days and “many more became believers” (John 4:41).

Does your past ever haunt you? Satan wants to keep you paralyzed and stuck in your past, but God has a new destiny and plan for your future. He wants to redeem your past. Like the Samaritan woman, if you’re willing and available, God can use your story to draw others to salvation.

We all have a thirst for significance and purpose. Only an intimate relationship with Jesus can satisfy and fill us up completely. All we have to do is say, “Lord, I’m thirsty.” He is the lover of our souls, and He understands our every need and hurt. He experienced more pain than we could ever endure. Even in His last moments on this earth, the Living Water was dying of physical thirst so that we would never be thirsty again.
